Mate Monster: Mate on g7

Mate monsters love delivering checkmates. In this lesson, you will use some nice chess tricks to target the mate square g7.

The monster skills that you will use are a pin and removing the guard. You already know these tricks from previous lessons. This time, you will apply them to set up mate.

What do you have to do?

Deliver checkmate on g7 (red square). Use your mate monster skills (pin or removing the guard).

The red square g7 is the target. White advances quickly and checks the king.

If the black king steps aside, White’s queen can checkmate it on g7.

So, Black thinks of something else.

He moves his knight between his king and the white queen.

Blacks appears to have saved himself from mate.

But look at the black knight. Is it really safe?

The knight is guarded by the pawn, but the pawn cannot leave its spot.
It is pinned by the white bishop!

And you know that pinned pieces are lousy defenders.

White can simply take the knight with his queen!
In the next move, White’s queen moves to g7 and mates the king.
